Internet Explorer has several severe security faults, aknowledged and not solved.
Due to its proprietary nature, these faults take sometimes several weeks, months or even years to be resolved (and some aren't even resolved as a way to "convince" the user to use a more recent version). Internet Explorer follows proprietary and self-made rules, not supporting (or supporting incompletely) some standard rules of the Web.
The existence of these rules is for who develops websites to be able to grant that, independently of the browser the user is using, the website will have a similar look and behavior.
